Integrating with smsframework [#1146934]

I was thinking about the idea of integrating the phone field settings into smsframework?

I just wanted to post this message with a link to the issue here in case anyone has any thought or suggestions:

As you've suggested in #1146900: Replace number field / phone number validation with external modules, it is best done from the other end or even a glue module/code.
