Danland - adding images to slideshow; updating

Hi, I'm trying to add images to the Danland frontpage slideshow. I edited the page.tpl.php and maintenance-page.tpl.php to include the additional slideshow code. I followed the instructions from the Danland theme handbook and uploaded the edited files but the changes are not showing on the website. Clearly I'm missing something... I'm new to Drupal and still learning how all the pieces fit together.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
