Hello there,
When clicking the small cog to add content to a panel layout the following error appears in a modal window

David Sparks commentedHi
It's something to do with jQuery - not entirely sure what, but for me uninstalling the jQuery UI and jQuery Update modules fixed the problem. No doubt I'll need them soon though, so if anyone figures out the problem please let us know..!
tvb commentedHello,
Disabling 'Drupal for Firebug' as indicated in this issue solved the problem for me: http://drupal.org/node/1050648#comment-4413726
It made the AJAX HTTP errors dissappear.

Thomas_M commentedI get a similar error, but not when clicking on "Add content" but two windows later, when trying to add a field/ view/ form etc. (although for some it works...). I don't get Error 200 but Error 500.
Before it was working, now suddenly not anymore. Cannot reconstruct what has happened. Deinstalled the latest updates didn't change anything. Don't have 'Drupal for Firebug' or 'Jquery UI' installed.
Any ideas?
Thomas_M commentedNow I deinstalled "Firebug" (before I only deactivated it in Firefox) and it works again. There was an update of firebug (version 1.7.3) a couple of days ago. Afterwards the problem occurred.
luthien7 commentedI am having this same problem with some differences. I have been up and down the issues list and this is the closest match I have found...I apologize profusely if I missed something and this issue is already fixed elsewhere:
I have a test site set up on my home computer and an active site online -- they are configured exactly the same. When I go through the wizard to create a landing page - or try to edit an existing panel - on the active (online) site, at the point of adding a variant or adding content to a pane (any time, in other words, that the pop-up screen would activate) I get the white screen with spinner (endlessly) and
"An AJAX HTTP error occurred.
HTTP Result Code: 200" error. I installed firebug and the firebug module for drupal in order to figure out why it was happening, so it was happening prior to those items being installed so I know is isn't that.
I checked error logs and it states "page not found --- misc/jquery.cookie.js" though I have verified that does exist. I don't think it has to do with my host site handling of jquery or apache as I had this working perfectly before I upgraded Drupal from 7.2 to 7.4. Strangely, my test set up on my local machine works just fine on Drupal 7.4 and has had none of these issues.
Any help is greatly appreciated

admataz commentedIt seems this error is a symptom that doesn't really indicate the cause. There are multiple potential causes for this, depending on various client/server configurations and Drupal settings and modules installed.
For me it is related to a javascript error triggered when I try to upload and a clash between a TinyMCE instance with the media plugin and the ajax/ahah in fileupload (Drupal 6.22). In Firefox.
I don't have a fix so far, but I know how to avoid it in my instance. Hope that helps someone....

aangel commentedI'm getting the same error and am not using Drupal for Firebug, etc. and upgrading to the latest -dev version didn't help, either.
aangel commentedI methodically turned off all my optional modules and that made the problem go away...unfortunately I turned them off in batches so I don't know exactly which module contributed to my error. When I turned them back on in pairs the error did not return.
leovw commentedI am experiencing the exact same thing in mini panels... Disabling my last installed module seemed to solve it - http://drupal.org/project/twitter_profile_widget
(frustratingly the module I was hoping to put in the mini panel!)
A solution would be gratefully accepted!
ethantAdding this (below) to my theme's template.php file causes me to get the ajax load gif, and nothing else:
So, using this module disallows users from adding scripts to their theme?
EDIT:
Solved the problem by adding my scripts to the main Omega theme (I am using a sub theme) html.tpl file. I know it's not ideal, but it'll do.
7wonders commentedSame issue here and disabling drupalforfirebug fixed the problem in my case.
Letharion commentedThis type of issue pops up all the time.
Javascript error [X] breaks panels functionalty [Y].
In each individual case, someone with JS-skills needs to sit down, figure out the problem, and post a patch, either to Panels or whichever other module/theme that causes the problem.
The maintainers of Panels can not ensure JS-compatibility with every other module out there. Issues like this are only likely to be fixed when a developer hits this issue and proposes a fix. If you can't figure it out yourself, and you really need a fix, please try to find a consultant.
This particular issues has listed several different causes of the same problem, unfortunately, that makes this particular issues extra difficult to work on, as it's unclear which exact problem we are trying to solve. I will close this issue "Won't fix". If you still suffer from this problem afterwards, do as those above, disable things until you find the culprit, and the post a new, more specific issue like "Drupalforfirebug version X breaks Panels UI", or something similar. This helps us keep issues apart, and increases the likely hood for their individual resolution. Thank you.

tr33m4n commentedIn response to #22, couldn't panels work without jscript and then allow the user to enable it via a module if needs be? Personally I think it'd be great if no jscript was involved initially, but I s'pose you can't do everything without it
Comment #28

slyisarenko-ilya@mail.ru commentedIn my case message appears when I try do any ajax action.
It happenes because I modify index.php in root directory of drupal installation for test proposes and add some output here.
All ajax requests got this dummy output and fails.
Removing it resolved my problem.
raulmuroc commentedShould fix because it is a big problem to have all panels interface broken and not working.
dave reidI believe this was fixed with #1708230: panels/ajax does not respond with the 'application/json' Content-Type header.
therobyouknow commentedHas it? Can we confirm?
This is where I see the same problem as the original poster - when I attempt to configure a panels side menu bar I get the error message in a dialog pop up as shown via the link below (the same error text as provided by the original poster). My screen shot shows where it occurs for my situation:
http://i48.tinypic.com/2n8v2nt.png
Seen this in Chrome browser (so turning off Firebug on Firefox is not relevant to me, but great news for folks that it is for). Actually this doesn't work for me anyway - I've tried using Firefox (I don't have the firebug plugin), and I get the same error.

therobyouknow commentedI started from scratch as I found there were several other modules I had installed which may be interfering with Panels/CTools/Themes or wherever this error message originated from.
I took Letharion's advice as they appear to have the best idea in their comment: http://drupal.org/node/1160788#comment-5325586:
Here is what I started from scratch with - this is my drush make file:
Then I downloaded omega tools
drush dl omega_toolsand enabled this
drush en omega_toolsthen I created a sub theme "therobyouknow" from omega
drush omega-subtheme therobyouknow --starterkit=starterkit_omega_html5and enabled the other modules installed in the drush make (above)
etc.
Then in the Drupal admin web ui I set my omega sub theme as default
And then I attempted to edit the side menu (as before, where the problem occurred), this time it worked - no error message. So far so good.
Next steps: I need other modules such as Media, Font modules, Google Analytics, so I'll install them one by one and take snapshots. And see how I go.
Not out of the woods yet but further than before.
therobyouknow commentedRight idea - realistic, Letharion:
So I started from scratch with just a few modules, success so far, but still a way to go, will install one by one and snapshot

_redfog commentedI had the same issue. For me, it seems to be a JS conflict.
Every time I saved a node, this type of errors appears to me on white page.
(I havn't got the firebug module.)
Then, I tried to desactivate some module, at first mine. I think it came from one of my JS file.
As you probably know, you might use behaviors in JS file like this :
When you have a selector, you can precise the context
$('myselector', context).even(function() {...})Having put the context to find the selector solved me the problem.
therobyouknow commentedI hope that @_redfog's advice helps those who want to try to fix their site as it is (thanks to @_redfog for their contribution). For those that want to start from scratch, as I promised earlier here are my steps so far.
This was my drush make file to start with:
I ran this (using
drush make (specify drush make file)- I assume you have drush set up. Daunting? Check out Dani Nordin's books on O'Reilly (no I don't have any advantage promoting these). Then step-by-step I installed the following modules, again in drush (at the command line).
More steps here (I have just listed the modules and if the install went OK (i.e. didn't get the error (that this post is about)):

therobyouknow commentedAnother option would be to consider the Panopoly distribution, particularly if you are interested in publishing and flexibility of page layouts
Comment #40
rHOnDO commentedThanks for the thead, it pointed me in the correct direction.
My issue was whenever I submitted a change for a view, I was getting the JSON error above. Based on this thread I reduced my jQuery Update pref from v1.8 to v1.7 and that got rid of my error.
terikon commentedIn my case, as I go to admin/structure/panels/layouts/add-flexible, and press "Preview" button without typing anything in "Administrative title", I get AJAX error.
If I type in the title, pressing "Preview" button works as expected.
It looks like a bug - not checking administrative title was set.

[{"command":"settings","settings":{"basePath":"\/","pathPrefix":"","ajaxPageState":whenever I clicked Apply after making changes to a View.Changing jQuery Update preference from v1.8 to v1.7 made the problem go away!
Thanks so much!
Found this post which discusses this error in more detail https://www.drupal.org/node/1869988
This post says that using the dev version of jQueryUpdate allows Views to work with jQuery v1.8 (by saying admin pages should use v1.7 and other pages can use v1.8): https://www.drupal.org/node/1965674
I was using jQuery Update v7.x-2.3. Current recommended version is 7.x-2.4. I upgraded to 2.4 and now see the option to have different jquery versions for admin vs standard pages. Setting to v.17 for admin and v1.8 for standard allows Views editing to work.

SolidSnakeGr commentedI've faced the same issue for weeks, any list box change on Display Suite triggered an Ajax HTTP Error 200.
I've tried everything related to jquery (disabling, upgrading, downgrading etc.) with no luck.
However it was Devel's Theme developer (devel_themer) 7.x-1.x-dev that was causing the error for me. Disabling it solved my issue and I can now work on Display Suite normally.
Just like Comment #26 said.
Thanks!

Gik000 commentedI got a similar error that makes certain views backend not usable

I also noticed that is not a browser related problem, it is something strange that I was not able to understand.
I tried to Flush caches, rebuild permission, update all modules, disable jquery update, keep it enable and switching all possible versions, using Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome, with and without plugins ...
but with no results.
The problem is the same on two different servers (local and production one)
Any idea?

forestgardener commented@Gik000 I had the same error as you. Do you happen to have ctools automodal and ctools automodal administration enabled? I disable these and the error went away. (I didn't disable them one at a time, so it may just be ctools automodal administration at fault).

Salif commentedHi,
I'm facing an AJAX error when adding a selection rules (of any type) in panel node variant.
I've try every thing I can do to fin a solution. but no success.
I'm using:
Panels 7.x-3.4
- Colorbox 7.x-2.8
- Colorbox node 7.x-3.4
- With Commerce Kickstart 7.x-2.21 (same issue with 7.x-2.20)
The error occurs when I go to edit node-view / edit variant / selections rule/ ... select a node type colorbox node or any other / click add.
Here is the error message

Salif commentedThe culprit for my issue was that the memcache statistics were enabled.
I've solved it by disabling "show memcache statistics".
Go to admin > config > memcache (Configuration -> Memcache)
uncheck "Show memcache statistics at the bottom of each page"
This solution was suggested by erikweeb and comes from here: https://www.drupal.org/node/1367060#comment-7098220

eawheeler commentedIn relation to posts #43 and #26, I too discovered that my issue was impacted by Devel. Although I don't have Theme Developer installed, I did change Devel's error handler from Krumo backtrace to Standard Drupal, and that resolved my problem. I'm currently running Panels 7.x-3.5
Comment #51
markbannister commentedTurning on memcahce cured the error for me. Devel installed but not displaying on admin pages.

meysamm commented#40 tnx for mentioning that, in my case putting jqoury version in >1.8 worked
Comment #53
electrocret commentedI was also having this issue. When I examined the error output I noticed the module xhprof was appending the php execution statistics to the end of the response text (outside the last ' ] ' ). Upon disabling xhprof, issue has been resolved. hopefully that tidbit of info helps someone.
thelocaltourist commentedI'm using jQuery update with 1.9 as the default. I changed the admin jQuery version to 1.7 and that fixed it.

abinvarkey commented"This error is partly because your site is using the PHP setting to print errors to the screen; this can cause issues with AJAX in general and you should turn this off. And while that message should not be there, it's way too easy to get a notice or a warning that would break AJAX this way."
I got this suggestion from this disccussion. I am not sure if about that, Please make a try.
