I just did a Fantasico install of Drupal 5.0. Is there any suggestion you can make for things I should do before I get started?

Really, a security problem has been fixed since 5.0, details at http://drupal.org/drupal-5.1/

Fantastico can cause problems like this, read http://drupal.org/forum/fantastico-de-luxe

I have never upgraded over a fantastico install, but I would not think the process would be any different. There are instructions at http://drupal.org/upgrade/upgrading-without-a-db-upgrade

I have a couple of sites on Blue Host, and they do fine.

Thank you US421 for replying to my post!
I am wondering if it would be better to uninstall Drupal and reinstall it.... did you just download it to your computer then upload it yourself to the server? I will need to install Drupal on a Ubuntu server I am setting up so I suppose it would as good a time as any to go through the Drupal install process if that is more desirable than Fantastico. Perhaps problems so common place, even it recently "fixed", could be a while getting ironed out completely. I would think the upgrade process would be the same but ..one hates to go through the time to work up all the personalized css or theme tweaks etc. if there is a chance they need to be done over later. What is your true opinion?

My true opinion? About the same as my last statement but with more emphasis on lose the Fantastico. I did actually use Fantastico once for a calendar but when upgrade time it did some strange things I didn't want to understand. I like to do things myself. The problem might be if you upgrade then later on do something through Fantistico to mess it up. If you don't go messing with Fantistico it shouldn't matter if you uninstall first. But I don't really know.

Sure enough, just download Drupal, untar it, do the FTP thing and anymore all you have to do is just create the database, the install does the rest.

I am between Linux distros at the moment but setup is about the same wherever you are running it. Gaining a little knowledge is handy when it comes to major upgrades, running a local mirror for testing, changing servers, all kinds of things. I am not a programmer but I do know that you can break Drupal so bad it don't even whimper and as long as you have a database backup you can bring it right back so that nobody knows.

Have a backup of your theme and database, and have fun. I know I do.

As to the install on Bluehost, it was a few months ago but they seem to be pretty good; I actually have 2 sites running there and I really don't think anything special popped up.
