I would be wonderful to have the ability to theme the heartbeat messages properly without the need for Display Suite. It appears that the message doesn't apply any theming from Heartbeat on its own. I would like to create Display Suite like styles without installing another module. If this is possible can I be pointed to documentation on how to do this?

Stalski CreditAttribution: Stalski commentedThis is possible through default theme implementations. Just override the preprocessors and / or theming functions within heartbeat. Together with the normal display screen. You'll need to add your own custom css ofcourse, that will be the trick.

So take a look at heartbeat_theme function.
