After finding and fixing several atrocious spelling errors, I decided to spell-check the entire project.

The attached patch contains only spelling corrections; there are no code changes.

Looked over my own patch and found that there were code changes; sorry. See revised patch in next comment.

README changes for 7.x.3 really need to be applied to the handbook pages, which are replacing the README.
