Enable metatags_quick checkboxes failing; plus, no way to enter metatags specified

We just installed metatags_quick, and have checked the boxes to enable tags for content.

However, after clicking save, the boxes do not stay checked. I gather that some tags are enabled by default, because the /blog page has a button at the top to let you edit metatarsi, but when clicked it says path based metatags still need to be defined.

However, there are no buttons or options on content to edit metatags. It's unclear from everything I've read whether or not, in addition to checking the boxes for content, do we also have to go to manage fields for each content type and create a field for each metatag type and assign it to each content type?

The documentation mentions needing to do this for other fieldable entities, but it seems like for nodes the module is supposed to do this automatically based on what boxes are checked. If so, I don't want to create a whole additional set of duplicate fields -- especially if they somehow don't work correctly because the module is best meant to work with the ones it automatically creates.

Can you please tell me what is the correct method for putting description, keyword, and copyright metatags on our Basic Page and Blog node types?
