I enabled it created a search page an i get:

The server this index currently lies on doesn't support autocompletion. To use autocompletion, you will have to move this index to a server supporting this feature.

I am using solr. Does this only work with a special version of solr?

Ah, yes, seems this is only in the dev version for now. I'll make a Beta 4 containing this, thanks for bringing it up!

yep you are right, works with using both dev versions of search api and the solr module. As i am interested in testing i stay with dev :)
