I've enabled this module on two sites - both the beta and then the dev version. What's supposed to happen? I was assuming that the option to output a csv would be a display format, or perhaps a field or maybe an option in bulk operations - but I can't find any reference to data export anywhere. I'm running the dev version of views from 13 October.
Sorry for being a numpty...

johnvYou first add a new display of type "Data export".
Under Format, you use export style,
Under DATA EXPORT SETTINGS, you set the specifice module settings.
I always use a default/dummy view, and set 'Attached to' to this view .
Then, I set the menu to /xls. You'll find a little orange button on the bottom .
This way I have a visual view fot the user and a download-version. But the first view is not necessary.

There were a couple of things that made this hard for me to find: (1) Since the words "display type" don't appear anywhere in the Views admin UI, I was assuming "data export" was supposed to be a choice of "display format", and it's not. (2) I was making new displays by cloning existing displays, and there's no opportunity to select a display type during cloning. You have to click the 'Add' button to get the choice. (3) There's no choice of display type when you create a new view, so it's not apparent that there are different possible types.

johnvSteven,
The file README.md should be renamed to README.txt
jdaniluk,
Does the file README.md contain the information you need? Can you suggest better wording?

For the readme, perhaps - "Views data export is a display type - like a page, block or feed." - this will give anyone who uses views a nudge in the right direction.
