The Andromeda theme (7.x-2.x) integrates with the Andromeda Slideshow module. Here's how to build a slideshow with the module.

Download and install the requirements

  1. Download the Andromeda theme (7.x-2.x) here.
  2. Download the Andromeda Slideshow module here, extract and put it under sites/all/modules.
  3. Download the Chaos Tool Suite and the Libraries API module, extract and place them under sites/all/modules.
  4. Download the Nivo Slider plugin here, extract it and place it under sites/all/libraries. If the libraries folder does not exist, create it.
  5. You should now have the sites/all/libraries/nivo-slider folder.

Enable required modules

  1. Go to the modules page on your site (http://example.com/admin/modules) or click modules in the toolbar.
  2. Install the following modules:
    • Andromeda Slideshow.
    • Andromeda Slideshow : Nivo Slider.
    • Chaos Tool Suite or Ctools.
    • Libraries API.

Create a slideshow

Once you've enable the above modules, the hard part is done. You are now ready to create your first slideshow.

Create a image style for the slideshow

  1. On your site, go to Configuration -> Media -> Image Styles
  2. Click on "Add style" to add a new image style. An image style is a type of image (width and height) to use for the slideshow.
  3. In Style name, enter the name of the image style. You can name it anything as long as its only lowercase alphanumeric characters, underscores (_), and hyphens (-). Example : front_page_slideshow_image. Click "Create new style".
  4. Next, find the effect dropdown (select) and choose "Scale and crop". Click "Add".
  5. The size of the image on the front page slideshow is 940 × 400 px. Enter these values as the width and the height respectively.
  6. Save.

Create a Slideshow

  1. On your site, go to Structure -> Slideshows or http://example.com/admin/structure/slideshows.
  2. Click on "Create slideshow" to create your first slideshow
  3. Add a title for your slideshow. Example : Front Page Slideshow.
  4. Add a description (optional)
  5. Under image style, select the image style created above.
  6. For type, select "Nivo Slider".

Adding images to your slideshow

  1. The slideshows page (Structure -> Slideshows) will show all your slideshows. You can edit and delete slideshows here.
  2. To add images to your slideshow, click manage.
  3. Click "Add an image" to add images to your slideshow.
  4. You can add as many images and reorder them in any order you want them to appear in your slideshow.

Displaying the slideshow on the Front page

  1. Go to Appearance from the Toolbar or http://example.com/appearance.
  2. Enable and set the Andromeda theme as your default theme.
  3. Go to Structure -> Blocks
  4. You should now see a block "Slideshow : Your slideshow name" created above in the list.
  5. Drag and drop it in the slideshow section.
  6. That's it. You should now have your slideshow on your front page.

You can create as many slideshows as you want, add as many images as your want. Each slideshow will have its own block. You can place it anywhere on your site.

Notes

  1. Some users have reported a permission error on Linux. If you have the nivo-slider under sites/all/libraries and still see an error message, make sure you have read permission for the nivo-slider folder

Thank you very much, this is very helpful. A problem i encountered is that the images did not show up when i visited the front page after creating the slide show. However, i cleared my cache and ... Boom, there it was.

Thanks a million

sajeev14’s picture

Very detailed. Worked like a charm. Thanks a bunch.

bwout’s picture

when I upload an image it says it's uploaded but the preview shows a broken image. When I use firebug on the frontpage it said that the location of the images is /sites/default/files/styles/slideshow/public/slideshow/images/ but the folder didn't excist. When I created the folder it also didn't work

sarafan’s picture

Try to use another Style name when you create a image style for the slideshow. Example : front_page_slideshow_image.

Just a short note to say thanks for the great work. This latest update really is fantastic.

Note to others trying this out and are not seeing their images in the slider, make sure all the modules for CHAOS TOOL SUITE are enabled. I had only enabled "Chaos tools" and this did not work, it needs the others too.

Cheers
Brendan

Tezza’s picture

This is not my experience. I have only 'Chaos tools' enabled and the slideshow works just fine.

After adding images and setting up a slideshow on my homepage I closed my MAMP session.
I returned a day later to continue my work and noticed the slideshow didn't show on my frontpage.
I checked and noticed none of the images I put in (As described in: Adding images to your slideshow) where there. I added them again and all was alright now.
But now the same thing keeps happening.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

This issue has been fixed in the latest version of the module. You can download it here : http://drupal.org/project/andromeda_slideshow

I am constantly uploding images for the Andromeda Slideshow. After 2 to 3 hours, the slideshow doesn't appear on my site. I will try to download the latest slideshow code indicated in the earlier comment. I hope it works. This theme is superb. Thank you. I will comment again if I am still experiencing the same issues. Also when I open my Andromeda Site in other browsers such as window safari or Chrome, the slideshow is not coming up at all.

sajeev14’s picture

I have the same problem. I added multiple images to a Slideshow, but after a few hours all the images on the slideshow disappear. Hopefully the solution above works. Will post the results. Thank you so much Guys. You guys are great, especially to a NewB like me.

sajeev14’s picture

Installed the latest version of the module. It worked like a charm. Thank you so much !!

t.nagaraja’s picture

The documentation was really helpful and works really great . Although I am a newbie to Drupal 7 i can easily understand the way you have explained. Keep rocking,...

Vikis1mil’s picture

Thank you people who done this.
My site will look like hmmmmmm.

EloWa’s picture

Hey Guys..

I am sorry but I cannot get this to work.. Followed the instruciotions as above but no luck.

Anything that I might be missing?..

YosemiteMan’s picture

I had to rearrange the Structures. The User Login was in the Contents, and Main page content was in the Slideshow area.

I have the shadow showing correctly. When I click "Demonstrate block regions (Andromeda)", the yellow highlighted area of the slideshow is about 16px high, just under the logo and the Header.

When I click Exit block demo, I can see a ghost of the images for a second then it disappears.

Regards.

P.S. When I log out all is working (Firefox). Google Chrome is as I described above. Yes. I cleared the cache.

Hi,

I just managed to install the nivo slider, and for the first time everything worked fine. Next thing I know, the images are gone and so are the Andromeda Slideshow Module and the Nivo Slider plugin. Although they are still in the directory where I placed them, when I view the Moudles list only the Libraries API and Ctools are there.

Luccy Crystall’s picture

Hello,

to install well Andromeda Theme:

Install all modules normaly by Modules on drupal

*JqueryUpdate
*Ctools - Chaos Tools
*Libraries API
*Nivo(the module)
*Andromeda_SlideShow
*Andromeda

After that
Create on :
Sites/All/(Create libraries folder here)
It must be like that
Sites/All/libraries

By FTP... put this inside libraries folder

JqueryUpdate Nivo_Slider(the module)
Nivo-Slider(the software)

I took a time doing this till I realize how easy it is...

Install all modules and after that pass by FTP Nivo-Slider and Nivo_Slider....

At least it worked for me

How can I delay the slideshow? I think every secnd a diffenrent picture is a bit too nervous.

Austechnics’s picture

Second this request. the js files can be edited to change the transitions but there is no change when the pausetime is changed.

Anyone. Anyone. Anyone...Bueller?

Failing that, has anyone had any luck with an alternative content/article slider in this theme?

PhaseIV’s picture

Same for me! I set the pausetime higher in sites/all/libraries/nivo-slider/jquery.nivo.slider.pack.js but without any change

Naod’s picture

I changed the value of pauseTime and has worked correctly!. Check other things.

Best

sparlez’s picture

You need to change it in:
sites/all/libraries/nivo-slider/jquery.nivo.slider.js
not the ....pack.js
it worked for me, I changed the value to 6000 and was perfect for what I wanted.

pauseTime: 6000,

LINE 661

moniekk65’s picture

I changed the pauseTime in the sites/all/libraries/nivo-slider/jquery.nivo.slider.js like suggested, and also the effect (from "random" to "fade") but no changes. The slides go as fast as before and also the efect is still random.
Am I doing something wrong? Maybe this needs to be edited both in the jquery.nivo.slider.js and in the pack.js?
Thanks for your help in advance!!

Edited to add: Never mind, I got it to work :-) Thanks anyway!

chemacosta’s picture

thank you very much, best slideshow i found, but it doesn't work with google chrome right? and just sometimes the pictures are not up at all right?

Thanks!

I'm having the same problem. The slide show does not initially show up on chrome. I have to press the home link to refresh the page, and then the slideshow shows up.

Booranger’s picture

Its same for me I see the dots and the caption but I need to click refresh to get the image to appear. This happens in Firefox, chrome and opera.

Fix for it here: https://drupal.org/node/1335138

hi,
first of all i would like to thank, for this such a wonderful theme!! it magnificent!!.. and with this i would like to ask one question, that is there any way to remove "SLIDESHOW" from other pages? means, i just wanna keep it on home page and remove it from the other pages..so is there any way to do this?? thanks...

shadcn’s picture

The slideshow is a block. So you can use the visibility settings for the block to show/hide it where you want.

rathin2j’s picture

hi..thanks for that suggestion and sry for the late reply, but the solution u suggested, is tried by me already but it is not quite VISUALLY appealing :( coz after removing the "slideshow block" whole LOT of BLANK black space appears on the top of the page which is little bit awkward!!dont u think! yes if there is any solution for that blank space then it's FANTASTIC!! :( is there any solution?? :) if u know then please ..it will b of gr8 help!! thanks :)

tasdsign’s picture

The slideshow works fine. However, when I go into the block, then visibility setting to only show it on the front page, it works fine and shows on front page but on the rest of the pages, the slideshow does not show but there is a huge space there where the images would show up.

If this has been fixed, can someone provide a link to how to fix this issue.

Thanks

shadcn’s picture

rathin2j’s picture

hi.. thanks for fixing the "shadow" issue.. :) saw ur post and dev release..waiting desperately for final or beta.. but wanted to ask that is there any way similar way of fixing that whole BLACK background portion also?? like if we remove the slideshow from page, black portion of that page shrinks!! :-) sorry, i know it's lot more difficult to implement then speak but was simply suggesting... :) u can look forward to it(as a feature) in future release.. once again thanks bye..

This is awesome what we can display in less than one hour !
Beautiful theme, awesome JS plugin (Nivo-slider) !
technically and estetically PERFECT !!

sashkernel’s picture

Have anyone tried to use this slideshow with other themes (e.g. I'm trying to replace a slideshow in Donland with Andromeda)?

Tezza’s picture

I just upgraded the Andromeda theme from v1 to v2 following the instructions provided. No issues. Great theme, well presented.

brutlagc’s picture

I've been having trouble with setting parameters. My slideshow is too fast by default, so I changed the pauseTime: 3000 to pauseTime: 6000 and it doesn't change the slideshow speed on my site. I also changed the effect: 'random', to effect: 'fade', with no success.

I'm editing the following file: sites -> all -> libraries -> nivo-slider -> jquery.nivo.slider.js

I know this issue was already posted below, but it appears everyone that posted regarding this issue has resolved it. Unfortunately, I haven't. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks!

Hi,

I am using Andromeda theme & also Andromeda slideshow module. But when I add images to the module and display it in the front page, the images are displaying in the small size. Kindly help.

rathin2j’s picture

hi,
have u followed the steps mentioned in the documentation of andromeda? it appears that the problem is with ur image style, have u properly choose the size(high x width) of image style selecting/ creating image style!?

hope this helps, u may post in some more details...

Hi Rathin Dholakia,

hi, ur welcome... Happy to help :)

lucaslondon’s picture

I have followed all of the steps; install the modules, place nivo-slider into the libraries folder, activate the modules, create the image style, but I do not have a "slideshow" option in the structure menu.

There is currently an issue posted in this theme's issue page, but no one has solved the issue.

If someone could please help me out, it would be much appreciated.

first of all thak's for this modul.

Is it possible to change the size of the slides? Haven't seen where to do so.

Thank's

shadcn’s picture

Hi all,

I am having an issue with the slideshow. I have installed all the folders as per told and have reinstalled it like 3 times. This error: Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in drupal_process_attached() (line 4456 of /home/a3645329/public_html/includes/common.inc). still seems to be appearing.

The shadow on the Slider section appears though.

csharpcoder’s picture

I tried this walk through several times and I can't get it to work. I see the images there, however they are stacked and not "sliding", also I'm unable to view my login control as well, it appears that the slideshow module is covering it.

I'm using Drupal 7.19 and I tried it several times with several different images, and nothing,

Hey guys,
i am kinda new here and having a hard time trying to create more than one sliders and insert them in different pages.
