Most of the world uses the SI units and has no purpose for US/Imperial units.

In sake of majority, I agree.
In sake of consistency, I don't. For example dates are in core as US way...

Title: make international units the default » Make international units the default, allow user to set default

I think this idea is good, but I would suggest allowing user to set default and/or set default depending on user locale.

Without getting into a holy war around systems of measurement, I'm just going to say that practically I don't support this change in the 1.x branch and mark it as won't fixed. Even though we don't yet have a release here, there are still 6k users of the module, and I'm trying to make changes as light as possible while rolling it up to a 1.0 release.

Also ... this is hardly a bug. : P
