when adding a new collection for identifiers added "- 2".
For example:
edit-field-testcoll-und-0-field-test2 changes in edit-field-testcoll-und-0-field-test2--2
in addition to another edit-field-testcoll-und-0-field-test2--3, and edit-field-testcoll-und-a-field-test2--2
removing one becomes valid:
edit-field-testcoll-und-0-field-test2 and edit-field-testcoll-und-a-field-test2

This is generally how multiple cardinality fields work. You can see the same thing in an unlimited cardinality text field. If you need to change this behaviour your best bet is to do it in your theme.
