Is it possible to only show the node content (-region) instead of the whole page (as it does now in my case)?
If so: how can this be achieved?

rdentry CreditAttribution: rdentry commentedI've found that you can create a "content-type" specific page.tpl.php which you can strip out all regions aside from content. Not the easiest approach i'm sure, but it does work.
