I upgraded to Views Slideshow 6.x-3.0 and enabled both Slideshow and Slideshow Cycle. I have cleared all caches but still have no luck getting the 'Slideshow' style to appear in the list in the Views UI.

This was not a bug with the module - it was with me! I had forgotten that I rolled back views to Views 2 last week and never reinstalled Views 3! Once I had views 3 Properly configure, the slideshow fired right up.

SELECT * FROM users WHERE clue > 0!
