I'm the current maintainer of Simplenews. Simplenews is about to release a new version on BETA or even STABLE level. This was long awaited by the community and a result of almost two months of work.

However for some critical fixes we decided to rely on Mailsystem settings (namely to make HTML mail working).
The maintainer is not responsible enough and the dependent feature is already in the queue for a very long time RTBC.

In order to manage a clean quality dependency i apply for being a co-maintainer for Mailsystem. We are awaiting this commit to release for quite some time.
Pillarsdotnet, please confirm and set RTBC if that's fine for you.
