Add images & hyperlinks to preface top

Hi there - I'd like to add some images and links to the top-right hand corner, i.e. alongside the header logo - above the main menu. I thought this was the preface-top region but it doesn't seem to work. Can anyone please advise the easiest way to achieve this? Thanks, Mark
