I have 1 list in mailchimp associated with authenticated users. But when I visit the create user page, the newsletter options do not show any check boxes. See image.

have you checked that you granted the right permissions for authenticated users to sign up for that mailing list?

Thanks, I'm double checking the anon user settings...

All I see is:

mailchimp module
administer mailchimp

Does that mean ability to signup or the module settings, the latter sounds like, hmm, testing it...

Ok, user looser error here.

If my list is required, no option to signup will show, just the empty fieldset shows up there, with the label "Newsletter Subscription"
That is a little odd - but no bug here setting this to closed. Thanks scor for the response.
