We were discussing how to handle the onslaught of spam to the handbooks without also crippling the ability for documentation team members to contribute unabated. Only node administrators have the ability to change publishing options from their defaults as specified in admin/content/type/X, so doc team members are out (not to mention it's really irritating to have to check the "published" checkbox each time just so that spam content is unpublished by default).
One solution to this would be to make node publishing options default per role. Then we could specify:
books: authenticated users:
- Unpublished by default
- Revisions enabled
books: documentation maintainers:
- Published by default
- Revisions enabled
books: site maintainers:
- Published by default
- Revisions enabled
I don't think the code will be much work, but I'm concerned about how to handle the UI. Any ideas?

webchickAn idea from IRC...
Anyone know:
a) If this is possible w/ jQuery?
b) How to degrade this gracefully?

capellicAny progress with this? I have the need to have a default publishing status (unpublished) for certain roles.
