I'm currently porting localize.d.o to D7 and I'm struggling with this issue: once I put the field into the group entity and I define its default view value (site-wide view), no group have this field rendered, I must edit the group for it to appear.

How can I solve this without editing 100+ groups?

You shouldn't be using og-views module -- it's mostly for legacy. Are you using Panels on l.d.o?
