This is a feature to consider once we are done with #1460738: [meta] Issues for improving support options on d.o., so setting to postponed. Original idea by Angie:

...Another killer feature that would be worth playing around with (again, not a blocker) is something like http://drupal.org/project/node_convert (if that actually works; I'm going by name only :)) to convert nodes to/from issues and support requests. Ideally, we could boot things out of the issue queue to this system if we find they're asking for help instead of talking about bugs/features, and similarly if we find bug reports being submitted in the support section we could turn them into issues.

So, for comments that are general support questions, non-related to the issue itself we should have a way to convert them to questions and "redirect" people to support.drupal.org (for example "how do I apply this patch?" comments #1308382: Add a "how to apply this patch" link next to uploaded patches.). The same for entire issues that are support questions.

The other way 'round: if a question asked in support.drupal.org proves to be a bug or a feature request, there should be a way to convert it to an issue so we can follow the procedures/feature provided in the issue queues and not available in the Q&A section (like patch uploading/testing for example).

If you think about it -the way it is now- once support requests are answered in the issue queues, we mark them as "fixed". They are in fact questions and they should be "answered" ;)

This would be a killer feature.

I would also like to see forum posts have this option.
