I selected several meta tags for nodes and I want to remove some. But the UI in the General tab shows the selected tags as green checkmarks and I'm not seeing a way to de-select/unselect the ones I no longer wish to use. Would the correct action be to do something with the new fields that have been created?

Looks like you can delete them from the 'manage fields' section of your content type (admin/structure/types/manage/[content-type]/fields) - I was able to delete my unwanted meta fields there. The green check marks went away appropriately back in the metatags quick admin UI as well.

Thanks this did it. First time around it didn't seem to make the check mark disappear (maybe I wasn't watching carefully enough?) but on second, third attempts it worked as you described.

Still, it's quick to add meta tag but long to remove it... ;-)

Yes, this makes it a ridiculous waste of my time. I didn't realize I couldn't just uncheck the boxes. Now I have to spend a long time going in and manually removing the from the fields in each content type as well as the comment field for them.

Even if you don't want to spend the time to code the change to allow unchecks, at least give us a warning that we will have to manually go in and delete the fields from dozens/hundreds of locations...

I'm changing this to "active", because actually no work has been done yet
