I cannot get it to work, even for User 1. When I try to download the file, I get the 403 error (even for User 1).
As per the title of this issue, I've tried everything posted here (ckeditor off and configured to not be used for PD settings page fields, for example, and rebuilt permission, clearing cache, etc). But it's strange because it won't work for User 1.
I'd like to think that it's a permission conflict (like the issue with Backup and Migrate), but if it won't work for User 1, then I'm not sure what to do.
The private file is working with the .htaccess settings file as expected. Maybe I'm missing something?? Any suggestions are welcome!

johnhanley CreditAttribution: johnhanley commentedI can't think of anything special. You might try looking through the issues queue for other configuration problems and resolutions.

thalemn CreditAttribution: thalemn commentedThanks for your reply. My guess then is that it's another module (or two or three) that is over-riding the permissions for your module. If I find something, I'll post it here.

johnhanley CreditAttribution: johnhanley commentedYou might try temporarily disabling any other file and/permission related modules just to see if you can make the private directory accessible. You can then re-enable the modules one by one until the 403 error occurs.

thalemn CreditAttribution: thalemn commentedYes, I've considered that, but it's a large production site and that would be a bit too scary for me.
So...I've decided to use a different method to upload/share/download secure files with Filedepot. It's pretty nice.
