Edit link does not work for Entity Reference set for Field Collection

I have set an Entity Reference for Field Collection fields. This works fine but when I go back into my node and click edit on any given field collection Entity Reference, the edit link simply opens up the home page in the modal. I looked in my logs to see if there were any tell-tale errors but did not see anything. This is not the case if I set the reference to a node for example, the edit link opens the node up in the modal fine for editing.
