If you think on shared hosting on Dreamhost, as I know, you can't install eAccelerator (or anything like eAccelerator).

hello,

i used the hiveminds tutorials to install eaccelerator on dreamhost and it works perfectly!

I chose dreamhost because it seemed it was the only host allowing to install an accelerator on shared hosting and i didn't want to invest hundreds of dollars on a VPS for quite the same results. If my sites need such an (financial) upgrade, then ok. But for test purposes, no!

Here's the wiki of dreamhost related to eaccelerator

BTW, i contacted the admin of this Drupal site (he posted a job offer a few weeks ago, looking for someone to improve performance) : http://www.rue89.com/

He told me they used APC (http://ch2.php.net/apc) to solve their problem. Just visit the site and see how quick it responds! It seems to be a good alternative too.

Here's the wiki of dreamhost related to APC

Enjoy the install!

APC does work with the same techniques described with eAccelarator but we decide not to publish the article. We could not get the administration control panel and a couple of other small things to work with any consistency on PHP5 on Dreamhost. Maybe I will give it another try if APC has been updated significantly over the last year.
