Support for Drupal 7 is ending on 5 January 2025—it’s time to migrate to Drupal 10! Learn about the many benefits of Drupal 10 and find migration tools in our resource center.
The admin menu needs some improvements.
Let's discuss about those (i.e. :move some links from Store Settings under Products...)

Bojhan CreditAttribution: Bojhan commentedAlright so my initial proposal is to make more "big menus", this pattern proved to work in the usability testing we have done so far. But we need to make sure we expand it without bloating the pattern.
The first one I want to tackle is Store settings, this one is incredibly bloated. I have created 3 categories, the left two ones have a target audience of store administrators, while the right site is more aimed at site builders. With this we create both a visual and conceptual separation of functionality. I am not yet pleased, that promotions only has one link - I wonder whether even conceptually it makes sense to split up the different discount/coupon methods.
The second one I tackled is products, this because we found in testing that people are looking for related tasks for products. You can go directly to the listing this can also be by clicking on Products main nav item, but also by clicking "Manage products" - we found in testing admin_menu a few months ago that its not always clear to people that the main nav leads to anything (because their visual focus is quickly shifted to the items exposed below it) - thus adding a link "Manage products".
I have added, two common configuration links.
I extended this same pattern to orders. We need to evaluate whether this is necessarily, I had trouble allocating useful links here beyond manage orders and add products. However we might want to add links to reporting tools here in the future.
This is just a first pass, so I would love to hear any feedback.
* Please ignore any visual changes I have made, those will be discussed in a new issue.

bojanz CreditAttribution: bojanz commentedNote that there won't be a "Product categories" link.
Solving that problem is no simple task, and not something we'll have time for before the release.
So we should plan to have a central "Categories" link somewhere (top level along content, products, orders?).

Bojhan CreditAttribution: Bojhan commentedBefore release, do you mean Munich or tomorrow? What link will be there, if there are no "config" links we are not solving the problem found in testing. I don't think we should add a top level categories link, its not such prominent functionality.
bojanz CreditAttribution: bojanz commentedI mean Munich.
We won't be addressing the category screen at all, which means that the title must revert to "Categories" (or Taxonomy), and we must find a new place for it (Site settings then?)

aleighs CreditAttribution: aleighs commentedA technical issue was brought to my attention that I would like to at least have an interim solution for.
The way the mega-menu module is set-up right now, each entry has to have a second level. Meaning under "Products" (for example) we need to have a second blue level for the "Manage Products / Add a Product".
I know it's not ideal, but can we add something to make sure we can implement this and then find a longer term fix?

GuGuss CreditAttribution: GuGuss commentedIt looks good to me !
I let Bojhan review it before we can merge it...
Bojhan CreditAttribution: Bojhan commentedI have looked at the updates, it feels good to me. I imagine we could tweak the weighting of advanced store settings more, in further testing.
I would argue that we should do this change to Content too, simply for consistency sake - so it doesn't feel like the odd one.
bojanz CreditAttribution: bojanz commentedWe'll want to do the "Content" fix before this is merged.
bojanz CreditAttribution: bojanz commentedThe code is surprisingly fragile.
Added the Content submenu, but managed to break multiple things. Merged, couldn't fix in multiple tries, reverted completely.
Retrying tomorrow.
We still need to find a place for Categories. Either in the top level, or under Site administration, I guess. Bojhan, what do you think?
