Add some form of status caching?

Would it make sense to add some form of caching on the data that is returned to external modules such as Nagios and prod_monitor?

Simply cache the whole array in the cache table for a user definable time in minutes and return that when a module requests for it.
Does this serve any purpose at all? Just creating an issue for this to keep the idea in mind... Any thoughts?
