It would be nice to let the user decide which message display, though i'm also wondering what could be the use case of this formatter? Maybe we would like to use the formatter on text fields instead to select the color in which it should be displayed more than displaying static text in a color?

I added a tpl to let the themers pick the markup they want around the message.
