Some things seem so obvious, however, it is quite clear that Zen 7.x-5.x is quite complex and those mixins need much more explanations so they can be adopted and used to full extent of the philosophy that lies in its foundation.

After this praise, lets get down to question: I have layout like that one in PNG. Somehow, zen-grid-item is making "absolute" positioning, and while many blocks (black) can be positioned inside regions (red) by that positioning, I was look for a solution to set width for six bottom blocks (.view-row class) by using SASS/Compass/Zen solution but couldn't make it the way it should be.

I thought I should use zen-grid-flow-item (1,6) but that didn't calculate well as it didn't divide and fit in six blocks.

I tried this but didn't work, can anyone help with this?

#block-views-nodequeue-4-block {
  @include zen-nested-container();     // thought was needed for full width, but didn't do as expected
  @include zen-clear (both);           // wanted to clear for next block but that also didn't happen
  .views-row {
    @include zen-float ();              // float was needed as it was not included by default (strange?)
    @include zen-grid-flow-item (1,6);  // This is essence, width should be 1/6 but I get percentage for width and strange right padding AND margin?
    }
  }

I'm currently working on improving the Zen Grids docs as part of the update to Zen Grids 2.x. See http://next.zengrids.com/help/

Also, I'm sorry I didn't respond to your question in a timely manner. :-(

Thanks for paying attention John, even after a year (I hardly remembered what project it was) but still I am not sure about whole thing on layout.

Maybe you noticed that I contributed to Zen documentation providing new videos and was evaluating at large what to do, should I stick with Zen or move on to Aurora family, Omega or even AdaptiveTheme as all of them provide similar low level advanced frame to start with.

For Aurora 2.x I'd need 2,5 brains that I still cannot couple, AT 3.x is not that active and I had hard time before and Omega 4.x looks very tempting. Still, I prefer simplicity and that is why I still am bond to Zen with wish to understand it better.

So few real life examples with most common situations would be a great help for anyone struggling to understand it (it is the case with all mentioned starters). Also, both Zen and others need some barebone and rich starterkit that would not only demo best practices and abilities to the max (it is easier to delete or disable by some settings then to make for scratch) but also give builder something out of box.

I even settled on some projects for SimpleCorp theme as it was responsive, included everything and kitchen sink (customers adore kitchen sink) and surprisingly easy to control.

I said myself that I'll step in and help for Zen in issue queue and in Docs but some hand from the creator himself would be much appreciated.
