Doesn't have to be Al Fresco, but any kind of document management integration would be awesome. Is this asking too much? I'd understand if it is, would just be good to know :)

As things stand, I plan to build our site using Springboard next summer or fall, hopefully as D7.

We aren't in a position to tackle an integration like this at this time. There is an existing Alfresco module (http://drupal.org/project/alfresco) that apparently provides some integration between the two systems. Perhaps that could meet your needs?
