i think it would be a goog idea to have the possibility to display node using a weight system, as for taxonomy, as to be able to sort nodes in the front or inner page by weight rather than by creation date.

Moving this issue somewhere more relevant.

I must say, being able to sort nodes alphabetically or by a custom field does sound like a good idea.

There is a weight module. Update a bit that -- but even if you do not do that, only help texts do not work.
