Support for Drupal 7 is ending on 5 January 2025—it’s time to migrate to Drupal 10! Learn about the many benefits of Drupal 10 and find migration tools in our resource center.
Currently have a web site running RC2. Trying to upgrade to RC4 through the module updates. The update errors with the following:
openoutreach-7.x-1.0-rc4-core.tar.gz does not contain any .info files.
Any help would be appreciated.

nedjoYes, it's confusing. Drupal core's update support is for individual modules, not distributions like Open Outreach.
For updating tips, see the update documentation on openoutreach.org, http://openoutreach.org/section/updating-your-open-outreach-site. For this particular update, we've introduced a new dependency and so you'll need to be sure to log in as an administrator and immediately run the update.php script after updating. See the release notes, http://drupal.org/node/1730784.

Thank you for the response!
