I've come to the opinion that no matter how much I read about taxonomy, it won't make sense until I work it out in practice.

To that end...

(boring background) I run animecards.org, which is a phpNuke install with an embedded gallery (gallery.menalto.com). This site tries to list a bunch of anime trading cards, with scans and information. Whatever you may think of phpnuke, Drupal's image module (especially at the time ACO went into production, drupal was at 4.4) is not sufficient for the goals of ACO. However, neither is phpnuke really good for organizing just the set information. Since the basic unit is an image gallery album, you end up with an empty album that just clutters it.

I'd like to set up a seperate site, with a drupal site, for the purpose of organizing the information about anime trading cards. I am thinking that a book would be sufficent for the information itself.

Anime Set Listing
>Series 1
>>>Set 1.1
>>>>Publisher, Year, Card Set info, sample image, notes, links
>>>Set 1.2
>>>>Publisher, Year, Card Set info, sample image, notes, links

>Series 2
>>>Set 2.1
>>>>Publisher, Year, Card Set info, sample image, notes, links

And so on.

I think it works pretty well with just a book's page system. What I am wondering, though, is how to use taxonomy to enhance this whole set up. What possible things could I do?

For example, would it be useful to bother making the following?

Vocabulary: Publishers
Term1: Movic
Term2: Amada
Term3: Bandai

ie, a different vocabulary term for each of the subsections in the set information.

I suppose what I am asking are what are the benefits of building a taxonomy in my case? I am thinking it would make it better for searches... For example, alternative namings, like Sailor Moon vs. Sailormoon, or finding related info, like, See Sets ... By the same Publisher ... In the same Year... Is there a point to doing this?

I would really appreciate any suggestions from the more experienced. I know ya'll get a lot of questions about taxonomy, but in the posts I've read, it often seemed like a different situation, and I've found it hard to figure out how to apply to my situation. Here is one such relevant post: http://drupal.org/node/4101.

Thanks in advance!

Anisa.
