Support for Drupal 7 is ending on 5 January 2025—it’s time to migrate to Drupal 10! Learn about the many benefits of Drupal 10 and find migration tools in our resource center.
As part of the usability testing effort, we are looking to prototype interaction approaches for the administration toolbar.
For existing contrib examples, see: Administration menu, Nice Menus, or DHTML Menu.
This prototyping work should take place as a branch of the main sandbox for D8 administration toolbar work:
http://drupal.org/sandbox/jessebeach/1749042
Contact jessebeach or Bojhan for details.
This is a great opportunity to get involved with Drupal work and perhaps get code committed to core.

Shyamala CreditAttribution: Shyamala commentedPrototype the responsive navbar flyout menus is awesome! The use of the three lines as menu symbol or the Navicon for admin menu may not be appropriate as the main site navigation in smaller devices would also probably adopt the same style. The use of wheel symbol instead may be more appropriate as in http://drupal.org/project/navbar.
Not sure if this has already been raised. I am only a recent follower of these discussions.

jessebeach CreditAttribution: jessebeach commented@Shyamala, that's an excellent point regarding the three-line menu icon. I think we're going to encounter several site integration issues as we pull together the features of D8 that will require us to iterate the designs somewhat.

JohnAlbinThe designs for the new toolbar have been re-done and no longer include fly-out menus. See the issue summary of #1137920: Fix toolbar on small screen sizes and redesign toolbar for desktop
Closing this issue.

This looks excellent--a vast improvement over the D7 admin interface.
One of the largest gripes I hear at developer and design events is the UI in the administrative overlays in Drupal 7. Sure, it can be customized to the nth degree, but most shops leave that as an afterthought...
This will go a long way in selling Drupal to other developers, as well as non-technical clients, who often can be intimidated by the amount of information on the standard admin interface...
