Search Blocks

Hi,

I'm struggling to find the answer to the following question in the drupal forums or google.

I have a search index built for a content type and I want a search block on my front page which lets me select the fields that I have indexed and then display search results for them.

I have a view set up with facet blocks, and that works well, so I just need to know how to create a block with the arguments I want and then pass it to the view (I think)

I can't find a tutorial on how to achieve this.
