Where can i find the file that controls the display for the user after publishing so 'for sale' and 'wanted' and '# Add' etc. am i allowed to translate these words and still have a working module?

There are no files involved: these are the names of taxonomy terms in the Classified Ads vocabulary. Go to admin/structure/taxonomy/classified_categories and use the "edit" link to edit those terms to the name of your choice or add new categories, delete others, etc.
