Hello -- I need to make a kid-friendly site. This means filtering out any "bad" words from any post. Can Drupal do this? Would it involve writing new code?

I believe the spam module will fit your needs. It allows you to setup blacklists which will then block posts that contain certain words. I haven't used it tho. You'll have to have a dirty mind to come up with an effective list. :)

There are dirty word lists out there if you do some googleing which should get you started.

It would also be a simple task to write a module with a filter that would replace words in a dictionary with astericks, or at least return an error telling the user that they can not enter profanity.
