Hi

I installed the module, and can configure the settings from 'Admin--->views--->views slideshow configuration'. The issue is that how can I implement it?

I am unable to find any link to implement it for a node or any view, neither anything is present in the blocks. Can anyone please guide me as to how to put it into action.

Regards

When you create a view in the plugin type (full nodes, teaer list, table, etc') you will see 'slideshow', by selecting this you will get your views in a slideshow way.

Amitaibu,
I loved your demo and the concept you offer, but without documentation the module is very difficult to implement. I will write the documentation for you if you will help me install it correctly.

@Mt_Roxx, Didn't understand - what demo? What isn't working for you?

I could not figure out how to implement the module. I have it installed, but do not know how to set it up. If you would help me to set it up, I will write a tutorial for it.

This is an INCREDIBLY powerful and useful module. Anything you can shove in a view can be displayed in a slideshow.

Potential uses:

- News item slideshow (such as the title, image and teaser of the last 5 news articles submitted)
- The Last X number of X submitted (images, videos, blog entries, forum posts, comments, testimonials, etc.)
- Rotate any image, based on any filters you can apply in views
- Hottest new products for any ecommerce drupal site
- Rotate contact links, share links, etc.
- Heck, you could rotate entire nodes, categories, image galleries, etc. I wouldn't suggest it, but you have that power.
- Its also a great space saver. Places where you had multiple images or multiple items such as RSS feeds or category listings can now be presented in a slideshow.

The possibilities are really endless as the more ways you can think of to categorize and add to views, the more you can rotate.

Wish it had better documentation because now that I've gotten it to work, I think I will be using it a lot, especially on my front page where I'm trying to change it from a standard "news site with sidebars" to more of a gateway and properly designed site.

So, how you get it to work is simple.

1. Upload the module.
2. Enable at Admin/Site Building/Modules
3. Configure at Admin/Site Building/Views/Views slideshow configuration. Now I don't see this link anywhere but the actual admin menu. That may be a bug.
4. Create a view. Under the "Page" or "Block" headers, you will see "View Type". Choose Slideshow list.
5. Choose the elements you want to appear in the slideshow as you normally would for any view such as node body > teaser, Attach Image: Display... any you want.
6. You can now view the slideshow as a page if you enabled the page checkbox on the view or as a block by enabling the block in your Admin/Site Building/Blocks area.

Some things I've noticed so far, is it plays strangely with image assist, and there is no way to use image assist inserted images in views, so image assist based slideshows would be useless. You'll have to go with image attach or any other field based solution, but then I am looking for a way to extend attach existing to multiple instead of the current single because I already have so many images uploaded to my system.

Also, if you want to change the options per slideshow, at this point the author is waiting on Views to be able to code a UI to do so. In the mean time you have to get out the hacking tool and start plugging some code. Obviously the author must know how much that sucks, so I have no doubt this will be addressed in the near future.

Finally, it rotates regardless of whats around it. So if you tell it to rotate an attached image that is 500px and your site is 750px wide fixed, it is going to overlay over whatever gets in its way. Maybe someone could exploit that to their benefit. Most people will likely find themselves rewriting their teasers so it doesn't move the content too far down and formatting their images or whatever else so that it doesn't cover up other content.

Once you get this working you will see that again, views is like a freight train, very very powerful and very useful... as long as you keep it on the right tracks.

I Just tested version dated "2008-Jan-24" and I didn't see that option too. The only way I can see that option is to Administer "By Module". If I set it to "By Task", there is no such option available.

I see the link. You may have to enable the Views UI and set the permissions accordingly

Title: Configured it. But how to implement it? » Having Trouble with Implementation

I am trying to display a "Community Calendar" in a slideshow. I uploaded the Views Slideshow Module. I created a CONTENT TYPE called "Event Slide" with all the necessary fields (Event Title, What, When, Where, Title). I also created a new VIEW called "Calendar_Slideshow" incorporating the same 5 fields. It was created as a Block to be displayed in the lower part of the right sidebar. If you visit my site at www.portofknoxville.com you will see the result.

My "Test" event was published to the front page. However, the only thing that appears in the "Calendar Test" block are the labels associated with the fields I incorporated. The content is not showing up. So I am getting nothing but beautiful fading transitions of these labels. :-) I'm optimistic though. Certainly, I have forgotten to do something simple. Perhaps you can give me a clue.

TrevorG, thanks for your explanation. I agree this is a real powerful module, but I think it's hard to grasp if you're not real familiar with Views.

Here's what I did step-by-step after installing the module to get a slideshow of pictures as a block on the front page of a site (http://sweetwater-organic.org):

1) Installed and configured Image Module, just enabling Image and ImageMagick Advanced Options
2) Create content > Add Image, uploaded each Image one by one (you can possibly use Image Import or Attach, but these didn't play well with my theme for some reason)
3) Site building > Views > Add
4) Under Basic Information, entered a Name for the slideshow (just for reference purposes under Site building > Blocks)
5) Under Block, checked Provide Block, set View Type: to Slideshow List, set Nodes per Block to 10 (?).
6) Under Fields added the Image: Display Image field, set Option to Preview
7) Under Filters, added the Node: Type filter, set Operator to Is One Of and Value to Image, then saved the view
8) Site building > Blocks now displayed the slideshow block with the name given in step 4
9) Set the slideshow block to Content top Region
10) Configured block to Show on only the listed pages, Pages: <front>
11) Edited the /modules/views_slideshow/views_slideshow.module, adding a align='center' to the first div on line 245 to get it centering, then went to bed at 2am.

Has any one gotten it to work with 3 or 4 slides in a row vertically or horizontally?

I used the cck_slideshow module to achieve the same thing.

You have to create a new content type and add a image type to it.

You can configure it to upload the images using the image catch module. This will allow you to automatically create several different images sizes. (Many uses and reuse possibility's)

In addition you can optionally at the time of uploading, rename the pic's and give them a display title>

hello there. i used the views slideshow to create an image slideshow as a banner (masthead).

i set up 3 banner (images), filtered in a views slideshow to 1 frame only, no pager.

the problem is when a page loads, say after a mouse click, all of my
banners show up, yes the 3 of them, then after the set timer delay,
finally it shows 1 banner.

How do I get 'views' to generate thumbnails so that I can implement a pager with thumbnails? Does this only work with 'image' content? Then how does the example with the videos work?

TrevorG,

This is a great post--very useful.

I cannot see any image type fields in my list of fields to add. I have activated the Image module and can load images, etc, have content nodes of type Image but no image fields in the Views UI. Obviously I have missed configuring or turning on something. It would be great if you or someone can help with that.

Fayna’s picture

Maybe this is the problem?

http://drupal.org/node/220295

If you're using Image module (not Imagefield, which is different) then I don't think there is any official 6.x support for Views 2 yet.

JohnnyMoney’s picture

In Drupal 5.x version:

Having created image node types with the image module, just wanted to note that the difference between choosing SET VIEW TYPE Slideshow Full Node versus Slideshow List is that in the former the block will show the image and the title of the node, whereas the latter only the image, which is what we want of course.

I am sorry but on Drupal 6 i can't do what you all explain. Please help me to use it

I am using the module without any real issue. Basically install it, activate it

Its all stated on the project page

After enabling the module, to create a Views Slideshow, choose "Slideshow" for the "Style" option under "Basic settings." Clicking the gears icon next to "Style" link presents settings that control the slideshow.

Closing this issue because it's a hodgepodge of problems which seem to have been fixed in later versions. If you haven't try the new 2.x beta

Automatically closed -- issue fixed for 2 weeks with no activity.

is there a way to click on image in the slideshow and be redirected to the page with this picture and additional info?

redndahead’s picture

This issue is closed so it's best if you open a new issue, but to answer your question just link the image to it's node in the view.

I want to control how the thumbnails are displayed. Right now they appear vertically, how do I make them appear horizontally? Everything else works great and this is just what I was looking for. Also, how did you get them to appear in a 3 x 2 grid on the example / demo site http://drupalhub.org/videos with the output on the left - this is exactly what I need !!!

Thanks
Richard
