Describe the project (goals, requirements and outcome):

UiTinVlaanderen.be (Out In Flanders) is the most complete diary of cultural events and recreational activities for the Flanders and Brussels area. It’s the starting point on what to do, where and when for thousands of Flemish and Dutch people. It’s an initiative of the Flemish Minister of Culture and run by Cultuurnet Flanders.

Better experience for more users

Cultuurnet wanted to launch dozens of regional, satellite websites for Out In Flanders to increase the volume of listings and the number of site visitors. The new site needed to offer better user-experience and search, and use the UiT database more fully and quickly.

Clear and fast content, personalised

Wunderkraut started by migrating the whole website to Drupal 7, redeveloping the interface between the back-end database and the front-end site. These foundations made launching regional sites far simpler.

Users can now create an UitiD from the site – a profile that stores their personal interests and lets them share the events they go to online. This feature gave Cultuurnet a powerful marketing tool. It can use profile information to offer tailor-make content for users and actively promote events they’ll like. The CultureFeed API is the technical engine behind the personalized UitID which can be used accross multiple Cultuurnet websites, allowing Cultuurnet and partners to proactively offer focusgroup information.

The new-format sites also have better search engine optimisation and clearer navigation, so users can quickly find what they’re looking for. This improved user-experience won UiTinVlaanderen.be the publicly awarded Site of Year prize and the Usability Award.

Great website, great subject matter (having enjoyed living in Antwerp for a couple of years).

A couple of sections could do with some additional content though, to ensure the case study is not hidden - specifically, 'Why Drupal...' and 'Why these modules...' Also, the 'Community contributions' section could do with some work as it's not helpful to non-Dutch speaking readers.
