After whining about it for the last week, I somehow managed to splice all of the goodies that I want from the new (4.6) phptemplate.engine into the old one (4.5.2). The new engine has the $zebra functionality and the ability to load node-$type.tpl.php files for different node types. This engine does NOT allow for multisite config. and i'll evaluate it to check if it can be comitted as the new stable version.

I am truly sorry I haven't been able to get the time to back port it. I'm in the process of moving to the other side of the country, and I have been running around like crazy.

I'll have some time over the weekend to look it all over.

I'd still like to take advantage of the speed increase you mentioned with 4.6, and I'm not sure if this does it or not.
