I've seen this, but haven't been able to quite track down where it's coming from. The basic pattern is, when a user logs in, something is calling it with an empty user object. I realize this is horribly uninformative, so I won't bother changing the status until i can investigate more. In the mean time, I've attached a quick bandaid patch.

Updated bandaid. Not worth review. Only use if you experience the problem and need an immediate, but temporary fix.
