Currently in d6 on disable variables stay in the database (excluding anything features may be doing). there's no good way to go "delete them" as there's no generic hook to disable in d6 unlike d7.
ctools has no easy way to gather default objects defined by module, as far as I can tell.
So how about add api function to delete by module that modules can call during hook_disable?
