I have done quite a bit of testing of the http://drupal.org/project/cer and http://drupal.org/project/ref_field modules. Both are adding the capability of creating a back reference on the entity item referenced to. The maintainers are also discussing to join their efforts #1634738: Join forces with Corresponding Entity References.

To aid this I have done an UX/Usability study on this feature adding called Entity Cross Reference. I believe I have been able to cover most of the needs both when it comes to configuring and using, including being nice to exportables using Features. The GDoc also contains mockups for the field configuration.

However, I believe that the use cases for this kind of functionality is quite common (I give a few examples in the GDoc), so much as it could come bundled with the Entity Reference module by default.

It would be great if the maintainers of ER could have a look at this and let know if a patch adding this capability is wanted for inclusion or if you prefer it to remain in an add-on module.

Would also be great for some feedback to my proposal, particularly if there is anything I have misunderstood etc.

Why use Google docs or some other sites to explain all this. I think drupal.org is a good platform for this.

Are there any results in this effort yet?
