Hello,

I am researching functionality for a client, and the question came up about how revision deletion is handled. We know that when a media file is not attached to any node, that it is removed from the file system. this caused some concern with our client, however, once the benefit of keeping unlinked files off disk, it became acceptable behavior.

We were wondering, what happens in a scenario:

- a file is associated with a revision
- the revision is ultimately removed
- the file is no longer truly associated with the node, meaning, a change in the media file resulting in the upload of a new file

We are thinking that the possible results are:

- file is deleted with the revision
- file is still associated with the node, and as such, the orphaned file will not be deleted until the node is deleted
- file is truly orphaned, and will remain on disk until manually removed

If there is documentation that addresses this scenario, I have not found it, please feel free to point me in the right direction of that...

If, however, there is not documentation to that effect, I will be happy to submit back to the doc repo, my findings on the issue, mas I report them to my client.

thanks so much!
