Every time I try to update my Chaos tool suite (ctools) (Security update) I get an error message.
Can anyone let me know what to do so that I can fix this problem?

You might want to post the error message.

The error suggests either the temporary file system is not set up correctly (under configuration >> filesystem), the permissions on the temporary file system are wrong or the temporary file system is out of space.

Can you please explain what I need to do to rectify the problem?

I suggest using the more manual method of updating files via SFTP (or ssh or scp or whatever) instead of using the updater that is inside of Drupal's admin interface.

It's important to stay up to date even if the process is a little cumbersome.

what do you mean by SFTP (or ssh or scp or whatever)?

I assume you mean FTP. Can you please let me know which folder to place the security update in and does it need to go in as .zip file compressed or do I need to uncompress it first?
