Would be nice to integrate the elements capabilities with the Field settings interface.

For example, configuring the placeholder text right in the text field or text area settings interface would be much easier than having to create a module and code that.

I think http://drupal.org/project/field_placeholder is probably a better solution than us trying to provide it here.
