When I installed this module by pasting the link to the tar.gz file, the next page that loaded was a completely white page located at /admin/modules/list/confirm. Assuming it was some sort of hiccup, I just went back to the modules list and enabled the module. After that, again going to the modules list, now the link to configure the module just takes me to /admin/config/content (which just gave me options to edit CKEditor and Text Formats). Something wasn't right, for the first time ever, I got the white screen of death.

So I disabled the module and tried uninstalling it. That seemed to work, but then I saw that it was still listed in my modules list. So I deleted it off the server completely, thinking that I would try installing the Dev version.

Before that, I tried running update.php, and this is what I got:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 67108864 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 71 bytes) in /home1/[mysitefolder]/public_html/new/includes/theme.inc on line 1226

Now when I try installing that, I get "Archivers can only operate on local files: temporary://update-cache-54ba4cf7/readmorecontrol-7.x-1.x-dev.tar.gz not supported."

SO, basically the modules seems to have royally screwed up my site! :(

Things look unstable, so I would recommend rolling back to your backup, increasing you memory and trying again.

The issue is unlikely the module itself, but the memory hog that is drupal. :(

I'm putting this down to memory limit issue. There is no significant difference with and without this module, but it was the straw that broke the camels back so to speak.

Hoping you got your site back in order!
