That blog post does not seem to make sense.
First it says that it matches with /^[a-z_]+$/, which is not true anymore since March 2008 (#240088: Illegal form_id when assigning a CAPTCHA to a form generated by Webform module).
Then it says to change the regex to /^[a-z0-9_-]+$/, which is not correct because drupal form ids should not contain dashes.
And finally it says to change dashes to underscores in your input anyway.

Hi, I think I've tried all the options, but no Captcha form for my side-wide contact form... :(
(switch on/of the module, on/off permissions, change challenge types, flush caches... what else?)
On login form is working. (WAS working I discover now... disappear while trying the other???)
I read somewhere it could be of conflict of caching??
Anyway NOT solved, not in my case.
