Release notes
This is now the active development branch, spun off from #1971250: New OO architecture, incl. several fixes (7.x-2.x branch).
CER 7.x-1.x was a direct port of Corresponding Node Reference; this branch replaces most of the CNR-derived code with a new object-oriented architecture, and incorporates many bug fixes/patches/requests filed against 7.x-1.x.
Issues addressed in this branch include (not an exhaustive list):
- Object-oriented, more readily understandable (and maintainable) code base, with automated test coverage so that we can quickly and easily port CER to Drupal 8.
- Proper support for entity reference fields that use Views as a backend.
- Rudimentary support for multi-language entity reference fields. It's not very robust
right now, but the OO stuff makes it a lot easier to implement this behaviour. - Many "undefined index" notices under various circumstances.
Support for field collections. This was always there, but the admin form wouldn't have told you that.2.x has the ability to directly reference field collection entities, but nobody really needs that, do they? :) CER 3.x has proper support for reference fields that live inside field collections.
7.x-2.x makes no changes to the database, so it's safe to drop it right over the 7.x-1.x code and start using it. If you need to downgrade, just swap out the module code again. But at this point, 7.x-1.x should be considered deprecated and development should focus on this branch for the stable release. Only bug fixes will be accepted for 7.x-1.x. CER 1.x has been retired and is no longer under any development. CER 2.x is now deprecated, so please upgrade to 3.x.
