JCaption is doing its work pretty well. For full nodes, it's perfect. In quite a number of cases, however, it would make sense to give JCaption an On/Off type of switch. For instance, I don't want captions to appear on my frontpage or in teaser lists. I have not been able to figure that out. It should be possible, though. D7 has functions indicating whether or not we're on the frontpage, or in a teaser etc. Would it be possible to have JCaption 'sense' these situations?

I agree, it is configuration on Manage Display default, could it be extended (or allow it to be switched off) to Teaser and custom please?

I think it's usually possible to achieve the functionality with selectors. For example, if you want jcaptions in the content area of all pages except the front page of a site:

body.not-front .content .content img

Still, a black list would make it easier to fine-tune. That's a feature request for that here: https://drupal.org/node/1997604 so I close this issue. Thanx for the input!
