Input Filters - Are there any active maintainers or user of this module I could ask question?

I have been following other issues, but no update in a long time.
I have some questions related to mailcomment input filters - and how to customise?
If anyone who understand how the filters work, particualrly the basic and "extra" input filter options, and the regex filter options included in the module - I'd really appreciate it.

In essence I have the commenting via email working ok - but I have some email clients that are sending different text strings that I'd like to clean out using the mailcomment input filters. But I have modified the mailcomment module regex in the advanced filter array - but it does not seem to affect the INPUT filter operation? (I could also have badly stuffed up the regex).

Should the array of regex in mailcomment.module file affect the input filter? Or am I looking in wrong place?
